
WSPN Legends Night
Get ready for an unforgettable night of connection, resilience, and community spirit at the WSPN Legends Night. Held in the relaxed surrounds of the Reef Gateway Beer Garden, this inspiring event brings together sporting greats, media personalities, and lived experience advocates to share their powerful stories around mental health and suicide prevention. Proceeds will support the incredible work of the Whitsunday Suicide Prevention Network, a locally-driven initiative dedicated to promoting mental wellness, reducing stigma, and saving lives in our region.
Your night will include a welcome drink on arrival, a delicious alternate drop meal, and live music to create a vibrant and uplifting atmosphere. Be moved by inspiring stories from our lineup of legends, take part in a lively Q&A session, and enjoy the excitement of raffles, auctions, and a lucky door prize. It’s a night to not only be entertained, but to spark conversations that can make a real difference.

Nick Farr-Jones – One of Australia’s most respected rugby figures, Nick Farr-Jones captained the Wallabies to their historic 1991 Rugby World Cup win. A master of leadership under pressure, Nick has built an incredible career both on the sporting field and in the corporate world. Today, he speaks passionately about resilience, teamwork, and maintaining focus through life’s toughest challenges.
Ray Thompson Former North Queensland Cowboys NRL star Ray Thompson has represented both Papua New Guinea internationally and the Indigenous All Stars, proudly using his sporting platform to inspire young people. Since retiring from professional sport, Ray has become a leading voice for mental health, Indigenous representation, and community strength, using his own journey to connect authentically with audiences.
Jay Shipston. With more than two decades behind the microphone, Jay is a familiar and much-loved voice across Mackay and the Whitsundays through Triple M. More than just a radio host, Jay is a passionate advocate for community wellbeing, regularly lending his voice to local causes. His open discussions around mental health bring honesty, humor, and heart to conversations that matter.
Lisa Cocker is a speaker with lived experience, having triumphed over trauma and mental health struggles to build a life of resilience and hope. Lisa’s raw, relatable storytelling cuts straight to the heart, offering practical insights into building mental strength, finding connection, and turning adversity into empowerment.
One thing these legends all have in common is their belief in perseverance and giving back to others. Each one of these legends will share their stories, allow time for questions and a photo opportunity.
