The Tiny Home Project provides emergency accommodation to homeless single women over 50 in the Whitsundays. We have the land – now we need a final push to build the Tiny Homes!

Homelessness for women 55 and over is a problem and is the highest statistics age group of homelessness Australia wide.

COO Joanne Moynihan (Whitsunday Housing) said “There is a definite need for housing for  Homeless women over 55 who are a hidden statistic in our Whitsunday community – they tend to fly under the radar, they are embarrassed about their situation and tend to stay with friends or family, live in their cars or in  overcrowded dwellings. One of our recently housed 66 year old women was sleeping on a mattress on the back patio of her daughters house.

45% of older women were spending more than 30% of their income on rent, with 17% spending more than 50%.
27% of our tenants are single women over 50.

There are more than 39,000 Queensland women over the age of 55 who are doing it tough – suffering financial hardship driven by rising living costs, lack of employment, or no superannuation and a lack of affordable housing options.”

We are not just building tiny homes we are building our community.
